Walking Trips

There are many marked routes in the area around Svelgen, beside the Walking Club arranges walks through the summer and autumn.

A popular trip is a walk to Ålfot glacier. There are many mountains areas surrounding Svelgen which offer many excellent nature experiences.

5 minutes from the hotel lies Risevatnet, which is very beautiful with a path. There are approximately 20 good descriptive routes only 15 minutes from the hotel.

Rock & Roll

Every year Rockweekend is arranged in Bremanger. Both national and international artists performs on multiple locations. The festival Rockweekend is well-know through-out the country.

Fishing

In Svelgen, it is possible to fish both in the sea and lakes.
Only 10 minutes drive from Svelgen and you are amid a bounty of lakes.
Here it is possible to catch beautiful small trout. Along many of the fishing lakes in Myklebustdalen there are many wonderful scenic places. Myklebustdalen is one of the most beautiful and distinctive areas in the district.

It is possible, if you wish to fish in the fjord, or you can rent a larger boat to go deep sea fishing far out towards the ocean.

AmCar

Svelgen AmCar Club has for the last fifteen years arranged their own festival.
Both new and old classic american automobile enthusiasts and their awesome
vehicles from far and near, gathers in Svelgen. The 2-3 days long festival contains both drag racing, 4-wheel offroad action, live music and much more! Don't miss it!

Charter Route
Join us on a sea cruise in one of the Sea Service's comfortable passenger boats. It takes you to the Vingen area, one of the most distinctive rock carving sites in northern Europe. The trip continues under the impressive sea cliff Hornelen, before we set course towards the fishing village Kalvåg.

Extreme Sport
Svelgen's rough surroundings where created for extreme activities.

Sea Rafting
For groups which stay at Svelgen Hotel, sea rafting is an exciting activity. You are taken out to Frøysjøen at really high speed.

Water Sport
A stay at Svelgen Hotel gives you a good chance to practice your most favourite water sports.

Mountain Climbing
Mountain climbing in the mountains around Svelgen / Myklebustdalen are becoming an increasingly popular activity, and is well worth a go. Here you find challenges at different levels.

Bremanger district offers a lot to those seeking an exciting mountain climb. There are approximately 35 marked climbing routes in the area.

Hunting

In Svelgen, your in the heart of the country's leading deer districts. Deer hunting is important in Bremanger, and the hunting in Myklebustdalen is considered a culture. Here the hunting tradition is long-established and strong. Good hunting area and good hunting terrain makes this part of the district the most likely place to shoot animals.

Also, small animal hunting is important in the district. Here you can buy a hunting card and get assigned to a hunting area - you get a complete outdoor experience.

Sogn og Fjordane in miniature

In Bremanger you really get the taste of the whole county. Within a couple of hours you experience the excitment from the sea to the glacier! This illustrates Sogn og Fjordane in miniature. Culture is strong in Bremanger and here you find settlements dating back 7,000 - 8,000 years.

Ålfoten Glacier (1, 682 metres above sea level) the most westerly glacier in Norway. Ålfot Glacier can be reached by foot on marked footpaths or walking with a guide. Ålfot Glacier can be seen from the road in Ålfoten.

Hornelen seacliff
Near Gloføykje soars Hornelen, Northern Europe's highest sea cliff, 860 metres straight up from the sea. If you are fit, you can as the Viking king Olav Tryggvason did, climb the mountain. Most people keep to the marked footpaths. In all perspectives, Hornelen is a fantastic sight from the new road at Rugsundøy and from Gloføykje.

Myklesbust hill farm
At Myklebust hill farm there is still a working hill farm. You are welcome to look around.

If you book beforehand you can order coffee and pancakes, or a traditional dish made with sour cream if you would like. They have livestock here for most of the summer. The hill farm in Ålfoten is authentic and unique in our parts. Whilst many have stopped running these hill farms and following the traditon of moving to the hill farms in the summer.

Grotlesanden
is one of the largest sandy beaches in Outer Bremanger.

Here there is silky soft sand as far as the eye can see. Grotlesanden is an attraction in good weather, but maybe even more fascinating in stormy weather, when the storm comes in.

Vetvika
Vetvika is situated on the western side of Bremangerlandet (island). There isn't a road to Vetvika, so you can either walk or travel by boat. Vetvika has a beautiful sandy beach. If you are lucky you can have the whole beach all to yourself. Vetvika is deserted, but there are still remains of several houses. The largest farm in Bremanger in early times was the farm Solheim at Vetvika. This is situated on the northern side of Vetvika.

Rugsund Handelstad
From the 16th century

Rugsund Handelstad has been central in Nordfjord throughout history. The trading post was an important junction point for clippers and cutters (sailing boats) between Nordfjord and Bergen. There was a courthouse, herring salting houses, trade, distilled spirits shop and a church. Today, you can take a walk around the trading post and have a look at the old country store. Here you take a step into another era. It's almost as if the smell is hanging on the walls.

Gloføykje - the millennium place
In Skatestraumen you find evidence of settlements dating back 8000 years. Large archaeological excavations in the area were extremely rich and indicated an extensive fishing, hunting, trading and settlement thousands of years ago. Here you have good access to fish and sea animals. Additionally, one could catch birds and go hunting for deer. This is still an important resource.

Rock carving site at Vingen
Not to far from Skatestraumen, you find Vingen, one of the largest rock carving sites in Northern Europe. Animal carvings, human figures and many other abstract symbols are sketched on the mountains. The oldest dates back 4500 years, whilst the youngest perhaps 1000 years newer. In all, there are 1500 figures registered. Vingen has probably been a cultist meeting place in the region for thousands of years.

Tongane Coastal Fortress
Tongane Coastal Fortress lies a little further out in Skatestraumen.

This is one of the largest German fortifications which was built in Norway during the 2nd World War. The coastal fort was attacked under the well-known Måløy raid, Christmas 1941. The majority of the fortification still remains, among other the main canons and soldier's barracks. The fort at Rugsundøy is situated with a good view over the approach to Måløy and the entrance to Nordfjorden.

In Sogn & Fjordane county you find beautiful Bremanger and Svelgen Hotel. If you travel via Førde it takes about one hour and ten minutes by car to our hotel. By boat or air you will arrive at Florø which hosts both the closest airport and harbour. Traveling from Nordfjord or Møre & Romsdal, simply take the ferry from Stårheim to Isane and follow the road to Svelgen which is apprx. 30 minutes of driving.

Svelgen Hotel has a modern conference room with a capacity of 50 people. Wireless internet, overhead projector and other conference equipment is at your disposal. A light and comfortable room is a good starting point for a successful course or meeting.

Besides having a course or meeting, maybe you want to do more?
